American Soldier Turns to Christ and Refuses to Wear Military Uniform
Harmless As Doves Ministries is often criticized because we do not "support the troops." Most pacifists are faced with this same accusation. The problem is, we don't support what they are doing, and we cannot detach a person from their actions. We do, however, support some of the troops: the troops who have taken responsibility for their actions, and have decided to lay down their weapons and love their enemies. Many service men and women throughout the world are choosing to "obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29), refusing to continue in their violent profession. Facing great pressure and persecution from superiors, fellow service men and women, families, friends, and churches, these stories are truly inspirational, especially to those currently serving in the military facing the struggle between duty and conscience. Two specific testimonies we have available to readers are those of Jared Smith and Michael Thames, both of whom were finally discharged in 2007.
