Charities

Charity Navigator - This website is an excellent tool for anyone looking to give to charity. With a database of over 4,600 charities, this website has a user-friendly way to search for, or browse through, thousands of charities. Even further, every charity is ranked on a 1-4 star scale, and information is provided for every charity concerning the type of work it does; its latest financial reports; what percentage of donations go to providing services, administration, fundraising, advertising, etc. To make sure that you are giving to a charity that will use your donation wisely, check to see how it ranks using Charity Navigator.

Feed the Children - "Feed The Children is a Christian, international, nonprofit relief organization with headquarters in Oklahoma City, Okla., that delivers food, medicine, clothing and other necessities to individuals, children and families who lack these essentials due to famine, war, poverty or natural disaster."

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - St. Jude is a pediatric treatment and research facility, whose goal is to change "how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases." All patients treated at St. Jude are done so without any regard to the family's ability to pay. No one pays for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance, and those without insurance are never asked to pay. This, indeed, is a great service to those families devastated by the illness of a child.

Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors - The Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors has been supporting and promoting "individual and collective resistance to war and preparations for war" since 1948. The CCCO promotes peace and attacks militarism through such programs as: The Military Out of Our Schools Program, the GI Rights Hotline, the Third World Outreach Program, and AWOL! Youth for Peace and Revolution.

Center on Conscience & War - "The Center on Conscience & War (CCW), formerly the National Interreligious Service Board for Conscientious Objectors (NISBCO), was formed in 1940 by an association of religious bodies. CCW works to defend and extend the rights of conscientious objectors. The Center is committed to supporting all those who question participation in war, whether they are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, documented or undocumented immigrants--or citizens in other countries."

Christian Peacemaker Teams - "Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) arose from a call in 1984 for Christians to devote the same discipline and self-sacrifice to nonviolent peacemaking that armies devote to war. Enlisting the whole church in an organized, nonviolent alternative to war, today CPT places violence-reduction teams in crisis situations and militarized areas around the world at the invitation of local peace and human rights workers. CPT embraces the vision of unarmed intervention waged by committed peacemakers ready to risk injury and death in bold attempts to transform lethal conflict through the nonviolent power of God’s truth and love."

Nonviolent Peaceforce - "Nonviolent Peaceforce is a federation of over 90 Member Organizations from around the world. In partnership with local groups, unarmed Nonviolent Peaceforce Field Team members apply proven strategies to protect human rights, deter violence, and help create space for local peacemakers to carry out their work. The mission of the Nonviolent Peaceforce is to build a trained, international civilian peaceforce committed to third-party nonviolent intervention."
