In Matthew 22, when Jesus was asked which of the commandments were the greatest, Jesus replied that all the law and the prophets rest on just two: love God and love your neighbors as yourself. We at Harmless As Doves Ministries refuse to accept that we can show love to our neighbors while killing them. Furthermore, the scriptures clearly state that we cannot truly love God unless we also love one another: "If anyone says, 'I love God,' yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen" (1 John 4:20).
We believe that a proper understanding of the teachings of Jesus requires all Christians to oppose not only personal violence towards one another, but institutional violence such as war and capital punishment. We instead promote our own understanding of Christian Pacifism, which centers on the unconditional love of our enemies.
Paul instructed followers of Jesus to "study diligently to show yourself approved unto God... handling rightly the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). If you study with an open mind and seek to find the truth, we feel that you will come to the same conclusions we have. Below are some brief and easy-to-read Biblical studies concerning various aspects of the issue at hand. To the left are supplemental tools and resources to assist you with your search for the truth. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.
